Kolintang
Kolintang is one of many traditional instruments from Indonesia. Kolintang is made from light but solid local wood. The local wood comes from North Sulawesi as the original place of Kolintang. There are 5 types of Kolintang such as Melody, Alto, Tenor, Contra and Bass. When you are playing the Kolintang, you have to use three types of mallets that is mint green, dark green and brown. Each pair of mallets is used for specific Kolintang. You will need mint green mallets to play Tenor, dark green mallets to play Melody and Alto, and brown mallets to play Bass and Contra. In the past few weeks we have practiced playing Kolintang. We are now playing a song by Mozart. When i was playing the kolintang, i sometimes got problem hitting the notes that i dont required becuase of the tight space between notes. The Kolintang used to be use for worshipping rituals but when Christianity came to North Sulawesi, the Kolintang was never used but after World War 2 it reappeared.
